I’m so excited to be featured as a guest writer for N. Jefferson Ltd.! My goal as a writer is to help you find that space in your life where you are at your creative best. With each new article, I’ll hone in on a topic and share my point of view.
Are you missing out on your passion for quilting because you just don't have the space to spread out? Do you lack energy to set up and take down everything so quilting doesn't take over your dining room table for a week? Here are some tips on finding a spot to quilt in your home whether it is large or small and putting an end to the notion that you just don't have room to grow with your quilting.
1. Assess the rooms indoors and out - is there a spare room, a tiny nook in the hall, a space in the laundry area, an empty shed, or even a space in the garage? Perhaps if you start asking questions about your husband's garage, he'll help you source out some space in the house!
2. Assess the room contents - do you have an entire room just for junk? Do you have a storage area of boxes you haven't opened in years? Sell it, donate it, or pitch it. It would be so nice to put that space to good use.
3. Does everyone else in the home have a space of their own? If your kids are monopolizing all the rooms in the house for homework, relaxation, and play, it's time to make a shift so you can have some space as well. Don't cause an upheaval, but enlist their help to source out a spot for everyone.
4. Take your time - you don't have to do it all in one day! Pick a spot and clear what you can a few minutes a day to make it work. Measure the space and the furniture so you know everything fits before you start and add a personal touch with a painted wall or a favorite desk.
Above all your aim is to create a small space where you can leave your machine set up with a bit of room for measuring, cutting and planning projects. You deserve a creative space to call your own.
