When it comes to the textile arts, it can be a challenge to stay on top of all of the trends that come and go. Textiles are such an important aspect of so many different industries and the trends can be so subtle that you nearly miss them. Luckily, we make it our mission to stay on top of what is new and innovative and we remain continuously inspired season after season. With that in mind, we have sifted through the various trends for fall in fashion, home decor, and art and have narrowed down the six textile trends we can't get enough of.

Embroidery
Embroidery has been prevalent everywhere from interior design to clothing. Delicate floral motifs and vintage patterns have been popular, paying tribute to fashion's current obsession with the 1970s and all things vintage. Unconventional designs like candy skulls and shockingly realistic landscapes have given this timeless embellishment a refreshing twist while innovative artists like Sarah K. Benning and Ana Teresa Barboza are changing our perspectives.

Patchwork
Perfectly distressed and just the right amount of disheveled, patchwork has made a big comeback this season and with good reason. Patchwork plays up the beauty in imperfection and it lends a rustic vibe to clothing and home decor effortlessly. Heavyweight fashion designers like Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler showed off their love for patched pieces with their deconstructed Fall 2016 collections and the trend shows no sign of slowing down. We also love the eco-friendly aspect of it (don't toss out that old garment, slap a patch on it and make it new!).

Wild Patterns
Loud and boisterous prints have been making a big statement, figuratively and sometimes literally. Bold geometric patterns and cartoon prints that pay homage to pop art king Andy Warhol have become very popular with interior designers, street-style trendsetters, and fashion bloggers. This trend may not be for those whose style leans more towards subtlety. Wallflowers need not apply.

Watery Dyes
Soft, ethereal washes reminiscent of impressionist paintings are one of our favorite textile trends of the season. Swirly tie-dye gives a passing nod to the swinging 60s while hazy ice-dyed fabric lends a whimsical vibe to clothing and home decor that is undeniably pretty. Sweet and serene, these aquatic patterns are so refreshing this fall.

Metallics
Bored with your typical palette of neutrals? Designers have been swapping grey, black, and brown for silver, onyx, and bronze and we have to say, it totally works. Shimmering metallics - whether in a fabric, a twinkling button, or a glittering thread - adds a luxurious element to any project and instantly turns everything it touches to gold (pun absolutely intended).

Athleisure
The line between athletic clothing and normal clothing has been blurring for a while and now it is nearly impossible to separate the two. Sporty details like mesh, stretchy spandex, and contrast piping have been popping up everywhere, from the runway to fashion blogs. Breathable fabrics and technical details are becoming the norm for many fashion brands, appealing to the consumer who wants to stay stylish whether they are sweating it out or strolling down the street.
